9/11/2021 Observing Report

Not a bad night. A club member came over with some used eyepieces that he acquired. Tele Vue Nagler 31mm and a Nagler 9mm 1st gen with a bad coating. Compared the 31mm Nagler to an Explorer Scientific 30mm 82deg. I liked the Nagler better, as it had more eye relief. We looked at a bunch of objects: Jupiter and Saturn which looked great in my Morpheus eyepieces as well as his Nagler 9mm despite the bad coating. Also looked at M13, M57, Double Cluster, M31, Veil Nebula with my OIII filter, and Dumbbell Nebula. I really need to get an Ultra High Contrast (UHC) filter, as there is much more contrast than the dark views with an OIII filter. A lot of dew on eyepiece cases. Sky appeared to get softer as it got later in the night. A barred owl in the distance was hooting a lot. Observed from like 8:30pm until 11pm or so. Temperature was around 60F or so. Only needed a hoodie to stay warm.
